Carport Kitchen

It's a good thing that my husband loves to barbecue because there isn't a lot of room for cooking in our trailer. We do have a small stove and oven in our trailer kitchen, but are not too excited about using the propane, and we appreciate having the the stove top and oven as storage space. After moving into the trailer, we realized we needed a more protected place for our barbecue and camp stove. We bought a 20 foot tarp style carport and set it up next to our trailer. Now my husband can barbecue and use the stove rain or shine. When my husband is outside cooking, I can make any side dishes and vegetables and get everything ready without stepping on each other. We have a one-person kitchen; add the kids and the dogs, and it's a trailer circus!

This Christmas, I bought my husband a pizza oven to go on his camp chef stove.  If I am really ambitious, I'll make fresh dough, but this week we bought dough made at the grocery store. The kids love making their own pizzas. This pizza oven makes the pizza taste so amazing and perfect!

The first time we made pizzas, we had a hard time transferring the pizza from where we prepped it to the pizza peel and then onto the oven stone. We then dug out the parchment paper. First we slightly crumpled it to get it to not be in a roll, and then prepped our individual pizzas on our own piece of parchment. The pizzas stay on the parchment as they go in the oven and once done slide right off the paper. So much sliding, that my sons slide off and on to the floor. My husband heroically saved it costing him a slight burn to the hand. I also recently learned that we can use our oven to make all sorts of stuff like roasted vegetables on a cookie sheet and garlic bread. I plan on that for this week.

Pizza night is the best!

The Hill House Project Begins

In June 2014 we moved out of our house and into a 32 foot trailer set up on our property 8 miles west of town. Once we moved out, we could get serious about getting house completely ready to put on the market. We moved into this house in 2004 and had almost completely redone everything in the place. It has been a bittersweet process for us to sell our first home that we have poured so many hours of our lives into making it beautiful. However, it's been our dream to live in the country; we've had 3 acres next to my parents for a few years now and we are anxious to get up there and enjoy the land. So, we sold our house and jumped in!

We really are just camping for a long (long) time.

The property is beautiful. We wanted our kiddos to have the experience of growing up here and experience play in nature.

Once our house sold, we started the building process. We selected a builder and started the very long process of selecting, designing, and revising our house plan.
